INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DIVISION

Information Technology Division


Welcome to the Florida Section American Water Works Information Technology (IT) Division.

The IT Division is one of several Divisions that support the mission of the Technical and Education (T&E) Council. The mission of the IT Division is to become the trusted resource for Information Technology related to Water Systems in the State of Florida. As such, our group is primarily focused on providing training and education opportunities to FS AWWA members in the Information Technology area. We participate in development of seminars, focused technical sessions, conference programs, and internal support for society IT related issues.

The focus areas for our Division include: Information System Integration, Enterprise GIS, SCADA, and Web Application Development.

Information System Integration - This technology area focus addresses integration of various information systems in a Water Utility. Examples system integration includes GIS, Database applications, Customer Information Systems (CIS), Financial Systems, Human Resource Systems, Document Management systems, Automated Meter Reading (AMR) systems, and Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Enterprise GIS – This technology area focus addresses GIS usage in Water Utilities and integration within a larger Citywide Enterprise framework with an emphasis on infrastructure data and spatial mapping. Focus will be on current application usage and future development trends.

Supervisory and Data Acquisition (SCADA) – this technology area focus addresses Water Utility control systems, radio telemetry systems, reporting systems, historical data archiving, data trending, and integration with other information systems.

Web Application Development – this technology area focus addresses Water Utility Web Portal Applications. Examples include internal Intranet applications for data sharing, web sites for informational purposes and Critical Performance Indicators for highlighting business operational parameters.
